Geocache puzzle problem, guidance needed

Hi
Working to solve a geocache location (cache GC35W8K), see http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC35w8k&Submit6=Go

The puzzle is listed as:

and the clue/hint is;
1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81, etc are what......
The puzzle will require you to look for patterns, once you cotton on to the correct pattern you will be away laughing,all the spaces are in the correct spots, if that helps......

Not after someone to solve this, just help to get started ... any ideas greatly appreciated.
